My name is Allegra Boggess and I am the piano and oboe teacher at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) in Kabul, Afghanistan.  We are currently recruiting teachers to expand our program and we would greatly appreciate if your association could spread the word about our school and our job opportunities.  One of the posts we are hiring for is classical guitar which is why I am contacting you.  We have had teachers at our school from America, Mexico, Canada, the UK, Russia, Western Europe, South Africa, Australia, Iran, and India.  As an American living in Kabul for almost two years myself, I am happy to answer any questions potential applicants might have about life here, security, etc.

As you may know, in the late 1990s, for several years Afghanistan lived without music.  The preceding decades of war and instability laid waste to Afghanistan’s artistic and musical community.  Most artists and musicians fled the country, aborting the development of the next generation of Afghanistan’s artistic community.  Over the past four years, ANIM has begun to revive the musical traditions of this country and it has been an incredibly exciting and rewarding time to be a part of music education in Afghanistan. Currently, ANIM is the only full-time music education institute in Afghanistan where talented Afghan children regardless of their gender, social circumstances and ethnic background are trained in Afghan traditional and Western classical music, while obtaining high quality academic or core education.  ANIM has a special focus on supporting the most disadvantaged group in Afghan society – the orphans and street working kids to attain a vocation that will allow them to reach their full potential, while contributing to their social and economic status as well as their emotional healing.
